Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • When we deny our stories, they define us. When we own our stories, we get to write the ending. Don’t miss the five-part HBO Max docuseries Brené Brown: Atlas of the Heart! Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall. It is the rise from falling that Brown takes as her subject in Rising Strong. As a grounded theory researcher, Brown has listened as a range of people—from leaders in Fortune 500 companies and the military to artists, couples in long-term relationships, teachers, and parents—shared their stories of being brave, falling, and getting back up. She asked herself, What do these people with strong and loving relationships, leaders nurturing creativity, artists pushing innovation, and clergy walking with people through faith and mystery have in common? The answer was clear: They recognize the power of emotion and they’re not afraid to lean in to discomfort. Walking into our stories of hurt can feel dangerous. But the process of regaining our footing in the midst of struggle is where our courage is tested and our values are forged. Our stories of struggle can be big ones, like the loss of a job or the end of a relationship, or smaller ones, like a conflict with a friend or colleague. Regardless of magnitude or circumstance, the rising strong process is the same: We reckon with our emotions and get curious about what we’re feeling; we rumble with our stories until we get to a place of truth; and we live this process, every day, until it becomes a practice and creates nothing short of a revolution in our lives. Rising strong after a fall is how we cultivate wholeheartedness. It’s the process, Brown writes, that teaches us the most about who we are. ONE OF GREATER GOOD’S FAVORITE BOOKS OF THE YEAR “[Brené Brown’s] research and work have given us a new vocabulary, a way to talk with each other about the ideas and feelings and fears we’ve all had but haven’t quite known how to articulate. . . . Brené empowers us each to be a little more courageous.”—The Huffington Post

When we struggle and find ourselves in the deep, dark recesses of our minds, it can feel as if the weight of the world is on our shoulders. Luckily, social scientist Brené Brown’s research reveals the power of vulnerability and bravery in creating a life of joy, love, creativity, and belonging. Of course, living a brave life won’t always come easily; inevitably, life will knock us down. How we rise from that fall, however, is important. Throughout Brown’s research, she listened to a wide range of people: leaders of Fortune 500 companies, artists, couples in long-term relationships, teachers, and parents as they shared their stories of being brave, falling, and getting back up. What did each of these people have in common? Each person recognized the power of emotion and wasn’t afraid to lean in to discomfort. When we try to rise from the fall, our courage is tested. But no matter the struggle, the process of rising strong is the same. Throughout Rising Strong, you’ll learn why being brave means taking a risk and how to use the rising strong process to change your perspective.

Book Raising Strong Willed Toddlers

Download or read Raising Strong Willed Toddlers PDF, written by Michelle Mann and published by DTM Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2021-08-13 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s an unholy type of hot in the middle of July. You are in the grocery store with your three-year-old, and he wants sour candies. You say no and begin to travel toward the dairy section for a gallon of milk. In less than 10 seconds, your son is on the floor, screaming. The lady next to you looks down and then back up at you. The shame you feel in that moment is unbearable, and all you needed was that gallon of milk. What do you do? The truth is, if you are the parent of a strong-willed child, this scenario is one you are likely a little too familiar with. The fact is, although you have been dealt this special hand of cards, you may not realize that you have also been blessed with a little person who is destined for massive things in life. However, when you’re in the thick of those challenging moments, it can be hard to focus on anything other than collecting your child, leaving your cart of groceries right in the middle of the snack aisle (the scene of the crime), and getting away from the judgmental eyes of others. Unfortunately, because of these types of situations, there can be a negative stigma attached to parenting strong-willed children. It’s no secret that you have a separate set of concerns and considerations than other parents might have, and trying to find resources and literature to guide you along the way can be equally overwhelming. That’s why I decided to create this comprehensive “go-to” guide. For busy parents, for moms and dads who are juggling soccer practice, homework, their day jobs, and all the other awesome things they do in a day, I wanted to give you a book full of concrete information that will come in handy for whatever life throws your way. Well, for whatever your strong-willed toddler throws your way.

Book Protecting Chips Against Hold Time Violations Due to Variability

Download or read Protecting Chips Against Hold Time Violations Due to Variability PDF, written by Gustavo Neuberger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the development of Very-Deep Sub-Micron technologies, process variability is becoming increasingly important and is a very important issue in the design of complex circuits. Process variability is the statistical variation of process parameters, meaning that these parameters do not have always the same value, but become a random variable, with a given mean value and standard deviation. This effect can lead to several issues in digital circuit design. The logical consequence of this parameter variation is that circuit characteristics, as delay and power, also become random variables. Because of the delay variability, not all circuits will now have the same performance, but some will be faster and some slower. However, the slowest circuits may be so slow that they will not be appropriate for sale. On the other hand, the fastest circuits that could be sold for a higher price can be very leaky, and also not very appropriate for sale. A main consequence of power variability is that the power consumption of some circuits will be different than expected, reducing reliability, average life expectancy and warranty of products. Sometimes the circuits will not work at all, due to reasons associated with process variations. At the end, these effects result in lower yield and lower profitability. To understand these effects, it is necessary to study the consequences of variability in several aspects of circuit design, like logic gates, storage elements, clock distribution, and any other that can be affected by process variations. The main focus of this book will be storage elements.
